The Infection Prevention Society is a charity with over 2,000 members and a mission to ‘support and inspire practitioners by providing the resources, education and networking opportunities they need to become world leading infection specialists.’ The IPS is run primarily by the voluntary Management Executive Group with the support of an Association Management Company based in Bathgate.

The Background

IPS were looking for a company to redevelop their website to create something more contemporary, easier to navigate and more in line with the websites of similar organisations.

The Requirement

  • Integration with the Amember membership software

  • Multiple admin levels to enable a range of different accesses to the CMS

  • Login area where members get additional content and can review their membership status

  • An easy to navigate, intuitive website that looks contemporary and professional and reflects the aspirations of its membership

  • The site needed to give local branch IPS members access to content, updates and news specifically relevant to their branch

Our Recommendations

  • Our first recommendation was to hold a workshop with a number of IPS members to get a real insight and understanding of how the site is used and what the priorities of the new site should be. We used the outcomes of the meeting to restructure the content, making the user journeys more intuitive and ensuring that pages are logically named and filed.

  • We suggested using our bespoke Timbewolf Content Management System with bespoke developments to ensure that the site’s content could be managed effectively by a range of volunteer admins.

  • We created a design brief that positioned IPS as a forward thinking and professional organisation that is keen to communicate with a range of audiences. The design was developed by our design partner Rhino Bytes .

  • Using analytics data we reviewed all content on the old site and ported across resources and content that was still relevant and apposite.

The Outcome

The new website is easy to update and allows members to log in for their branch news and updates and other content only available to members. The site has three levels of user:

  • Non -members who have access to well presented, informative content about the IPS and to a range of IPS resources

  • Members who have access to additional member content and branch information

  • Management Executive Group members who have access to content specifically relevant to their roles within the organisation and to details about meetings etc they will need to attend.

There are four levels of admin access, branch administrators, SIG editors, Admin and Timberwolf Admin. Each level is accessible by a single log in page on the website where additional navigations are provided for people with the relevant accesses.

The site has been fully optimised by our SEO team and all relevant redirects etc were put in place. The site will continue to develop to be a key benefit of IPS membership and membership recruitment.

Following the successful launch of the new website, Frank! our branding and marketing arm worked with IPS on their first ever all digital event. The IPS Autumn Webinar Series 2020.
